MAG Not an ‘Iteration of SOCOM’

VG247 talked to the SCEA hardware marketing boss, John Koller, about MAG last week at the GDC.

First Koller claims that MAG is,

“something that’s only possible on PS3.”

He then went on about the concept of the game,

“It’s basically like an iteration of SOCOM, where you’re maybe commanding the SEALs, and someone else has the Rangers, and the Green Berets, and so on.”

Some sites then ran stories using the quote above, some even going as far as calling MAG the next game in the SOCOM series.

Cindy Bowens, the community manager at SCEA clarified the comments made last week however;

“I just wanted to give you a heads up in response to the quote about MAG being an “iteration of SOCOM.”

I wanted to clarify that this is a misstatement. MAG is a brand new IP and is unrelated to SOCOM.

It is not a sequel nor built upon SOCOM. It will be a brand new experience.”

So there you have it, MAG is indeed a new IP, you might also want to check out the new images we posted today.

    Ummmm, dude The current Socom was butchered by Slant 6. Not the current MAG development team. Get a grip

    By the way, Socom Confrontation is now very fun, not to mention playable. The 1.4 and 1.14 patches completely took out the lag problem, and the 1.5 patch will fix everything. The only problem left is the need for more maps.

    Cindy Bowens aka "Abigale" on the SOCOM PS3 boards, did nothing but lie to all the old school SOCOM fans by telling us that the ps3 version would be the ultimate socom, but we all know that was complete BS based on the way SOCOM has turned out. Cindy Bowens was hired by SCEA to make friends and buddy up with all the SOCOM players to sucker alot of unknowing SOCOMers into buying a broken, buggy, slow miserable excuse for a SOCOM game.

    We felt ripped off, betrayed and were outraged. Hey Cindy, have you taken a look at the sales figures for SOCOM lol

    what a joke
