Xbox 360 – Mandatory System Update

A mandatory system update has been released for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE.

Users signing in to Xbox LIVE will receive a prompt to update their systems, users that are already signed in may be signed out and asked to accept the update.

The update itself is simply preparation for features such as Facebook, Twitter and Last.FM integration that is due to arrive later this year, no new features have been enabled yet.

Major Nelson had the following to tweet on XBL connection issues;

I just talked to the Xbox Operations Center, if you can not connect to LIVE, they’re aware of it and actively working on the issue.

UPDATE: The XBL issues have been resolved.
